When is it acceptable for our President to Break the Law? The Human Trafficking Crisis at US Borders: Border Security and Political Negligence

We are creating a welcome mat for criminal traffickers. As global citizens, we should all be concerned for the thousands of vulnerable victims of human trafficking who are actively being trafficked into our country on a weekly basis.

As an anti-human-trafficking activist for over 20 years, I am appalled at the political agenda on both sides of the political party aisle. The denial and lack of action under our current political leadership supports and promotes trafficking of some of the most vulnerable populations in the world. The latest US budget reflects a lack of intention to and the absence of making the saving of vulnerable children at risk for human trafficking at our borders a priority. The US has allocated billions to secure borders world-wide but few funds to secure US borders from illegal activity. 

On the current US Customs and Border Protection website, the Daily Duties makes clear...
“One of the most important activities of a Border Patrol agent is line watch. This involves the detection, prevention, and apprehension of terrorists, undocumented individuals, and human smugglers at or near the land border by maintaining surveillance from a covert position, following up leads, responding to electronic sensor television systems and aircraft sightings, and interpreting and following tracks, marks, and other physical evidence. Some of the major activities are traffic check, traffic observation, city patrol, transportation check, administrative, intelligence, and anti-smuggling activities” (https://www.cbp.gov/border-security/along-us- borders). 

If you are a US citizen, please contact your State representatives to urge them to stop ignoring the need for upholding the present laws to secure our border from illegal entrance, and to fund securing our borders to help reduce human trafficking victimization.
